The historic centre

A good starting point to visit the city of Salamanca is the Plaza Mayor, a typical Castilian square from the 18th century, that nowadays is an outstanding social centre. It is one of the most beautiful squares in the country with its arches and carvings, and where you will find the beautiful the Town Hall.

Close to the Plaza Mayor, you should not miss a visit to the Old Cathedral and the New Cathedral. The Old one, in Romanesque style, is known for its beautiful cloister and its main altarpiece; the New Cathedral, built during the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, perfectly combines Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles. Another must is a visit to the Casa de las Conchas, a Gothic-style building known for the shells that decorate its façade and which houses an exhibition hall and a library.
